They've Captured the Essence of Violence, and Chopped It Up into 4 Tracks - Vile Decree Releases Second EP 'Hostile'
The band’s 2023 debut EP, No Word for Peace, introduced Vile Decree to the public as purveyors of primal deathcore and bolstered the undeniable presence of Baytown Hardcore. Their new EP titled Hostile is set to be released May 17, 2025 via Tarantula Tapes and showcases Vile Decree’s staggering evolution in their sound and production that include all the beloved markers of death metal and hardcore.
Putting all fancy descriptors aside, Hostile is violent - plain and simple.
Each of the 4 new tracks that make up Hostile are pure muscle - pummeling the listener with only a few sparing moments to breathe as the breakdowns hang with the tension of a noose. Vile Decree have found that excellent balance between heaviness in tone, but remain agile in their execution so the listener doesn’t get bogged down by the weight.
While short on runtime, Hostile surges from the offset with chest-rattling, bestial vocals, and the band’s heftiest riffs to date. They make use of every second and leave nothing on the bone for vultures to pick at.
From track 1, aptly titled “Intro”, Vile Decree sets the same mood as a sunrise over the gallows. The atmosphere is tense and leaves the listener hanging just long enough to realize that no-quarter will be given.
From there on out, Hostile chugs and bludgeons the listener, dragging its weight across the remaining 3 tracks. The real challenge posed by the new EP is how to stay still. The band have included crucial 2-step, beatdown, and moshable moments throughout that invite the audience into the melee - because celebrating violence is healthier in a group setting...right?
Is Hostile going to be everyone’s cup of tea? Absolutely not. But does tea have the ability to cathartically release all the pent up pressure of living in a late-stage capitalist hellscape?Fuck no - but Vile Decree have steeped something stronger for those seeking a more aggressive taste.
Hostile will be available to purchase on May 17 via Tarantula Tapes HERE and an EP release party on May 24.
