A Dynamic and Cinematic Album that Plays Out Like a Soundtrack to the Apocalypse - Battlescarred release 'New Era'

Battlescarred is not a band that settles into complacency or nestles themselves into the confinements of genre. First introduced in 2021, Battlescarred exploded onto the scene with an aggressive, thrash-inspired sound and a work ethic to match. Never to be stagnant or find comfort in complacency, Battlescarred continued to hone their sound and not align themselves to any of the arbitrary do’s and don’ts of genre.

After the release of their EP and a few singles that swayed from deathcore to nu-metal, Battlescarred have released New Era - an apt and fortuitous title.

Released on June 13, New Era was a re-introduction to Battlescarred. Redefining their sound towards metalocre and elements of modern metal, New Era is Battlescarred evolved. With all the aggressive and intense tones of their previous work, New Era is a dynamic and cinematic album that plays out like a soundtrack to the apocalypse.

Opening with ‘Greetings and Welcome to…’, a sickeningly obvious artificial voice leads you into a world of struggle and strife. Dystopia. Plagued by the issues we know all too well - housing crisis, cost of food, corruption etc.- the stage is set for 40 minutes of screaming guitars, breakdowns, a myriad of vocals, and a uniquely cathartic experience. Heavy and unyielding from the beginning, the album finds its most impactful ebb on Track 5, ‘Bittertrend’. Taking a short break from pointing the finger at the perpetrators and aggressors of the aforementioned issues, ‘Bittertrend’ goes introspective and questions mortality.

The polished production by guitarist Kyle Hunt (Mixed and Mastered at 1104 Studios) doesn’t detract from the raw and powerful foundation that Battlescarred have laid. They have created melody and mayhem by their own standards.

Appearing on the tracklist are re-tooled and re-recorded versions of previously released songs Cold Dead Heart, Hindsight, and From The Ashes. With the addition of Jason Hodgson on guitar and back up vocals, as well as Shayne Fournier as their third guitarist - New Era is their fullest sound to date.

It is clear that New Era was a collaborative effort, and every member shines across the LP. More importantly, there is a sense of genuine pride in what Battlescarred have created. There is an energy that radiates from the album of cultivation, anticipation, and resilience. New Era is exactly what the title promises, a stunning new sound from Battlescarred.
